Grant Objectives (in Grant application, Narrative, Pg 1)

Primary purpose
...is to build a digital collection that will best meet the needs of teachers and learners in the state of Tennessee and beyond.

Secondary purpose
...is to empower libraries, museums, and archives around the state with the tools and resources needed to digitally preserve and provide open access to resources via the Internet.

Five main audiences:
- Teachers in Tennessee
- Students in Tennessee
- Librarians and Archivists
- Adult residents of the state of Tennessee
- Scholars of democracy, U.S. History, or Tennessee history
Goals (in Grant application, Narrative, Section 4, Pgs 3-5)

Create three Regional Digitization Centers
(east, middle, west) to provide the project's digitization services, educational design, technical training, and equipment needs.

Identify, select and digitize 10,000 unique primary sources
from archives, libraries, museums and other repositories...and make these items digitally available to scholars through a free internet database hosted by the UT Library.

Create a statewide network
of shared electronic resources, training opportunities, and common technical standards.

Metadata
Develop our own kind of Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS)

Searchable
The material and metadata will be searchable through the DLXS digital library software system.

Accessible
...the records will be accessible through the Volunteer Voices website and harvestable as OAI (Open Archives Initiative) records through an OAI-PMH protocol.

Core Teachers
...the Education Coordinator will contact school administrators to assemble a target group of teachers for multi-day workshops.
